Davido Reacts to #EndSARS Protest Ban in FCT

Popular singer, Davido has reacted to the ban of the nationwide protest against police brutality in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The security committee of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja had prohibited the #EndSARS protest in the capital city.

In a statement made available to members of the public, on Thursday, October 15, 2020, the security committee stated that it decided at its Tuesday, October 13, 2020 meeting, that the protests are in violation of COVID-19 guidelines, which were put in place to stop the spread of COVID-19.

According to the committee, the peaceful protesters have been behaving in an unruly manner and have caused inconveniences to others in the capital city.

The committee also alleged that the protesters have failed to comply with COVID-19 guidelines regulating public gatherings.

The committee’s meeting presided over by FCT Minister, Muhammad Bello, resolved that the ongoing protests endanger the lives of everyone in the capital city.

All street demonstrations, protests, and processions will not be allowed anywhere within the FCT,” the statement read.

Reacting to the ban, Davido wrote: “Can’t protest but y’all just had campaign rallies and conducted 2 elections recently !!! Do they think ?? Wtf I’m ANGRY !!”

Recall that on Sunday, October 11, 2020, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu announced that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), had been dissolved.

The move to dissolve the notorious police unit, follows widespread protests against the unit’s brutality.

Among the celebrities that have attending demonstrations and promoting the #EndSARS hashtag was Davido. And even after the SARS ban, he’s been adding his voice to the need to end police brutality.
