Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, better known as Davido, is already having one hell of a record breaking year, and it’s only February. The music star has become the most followed African celebrity on Instagram, perhaps, most influential African celebrity, on social media. With 15 million followers on his verified Instagram account, Davido can now arguably claim to be Africa’s most popular entertainer.
Not only on Instagram, the “Risky” crooner is active on Twitter. He has over six million followers on the microblogging site.
With hits after hits since he appeared on the music scene almost 10 years ago with Omo Baba Olowo (O.B.O), Davido is one of the most active Nigerian celebrities on Instagram, where he shares information about his life and career and it’s no surprise that his fame and popularity on social media platforms is skyrocketing. The “Risky” crooner emerged the richest Nigerian on the same platform in July 2019 with a post valued at over N26 million.
Davido is regarded as Nigeria’s best by many and remains one of Africa’s best. In the past, he has won the MTV Africa Music Awards, The Headies Award, Ghana Music Award, Kora Award, Nigeria Music Video Award and BET Award among others. Describing his rise to fame in 2019, Davido said:
“I didn’t expect it to be this big at all. When I first started in the industry, I used to tell myself that I don’t want to be too big. I just want to be in the industry and don’t want to be known too much. But after some time, I started getting bigger and people could recognize me anywhere I go. It’s just crazy. It comes with a lot of benefits though. Like at first, my father didn’t want me to go into music. But now, anywhere both of us go, people call him Baba Omo Olowo.”
Just recently Davido was embroiled in a viral audio signing and copyright brouhaha, that allegedly ruined his relationship with his partner, Chioma. However, they have both put all the allegations behind as the music star took to his Instagram stories on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, where he shared a photo of a Patek Philippe wristwatch he gifted Chioma, which cost N16M. According to him, the watch was Chioma‘s gift ahead of the special day set aside to celebrate lovers.
Apparently, the singer has completely made his negative experiences work in his favour.
