Online comedian and Naval officer, Abdulgafar Ahmad, also known as Cute Abiola, has spent 10 days in the custody of the Nigerian Navy for posting a video of himself in military uniform on social media.
On Wednesday, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Navy, Commodore Saluman Dahun, spoke on the matter. He revealed that the comedian’s case is an administrative matter and it is being treated as such. He said,
“it is an administrative issue and it is going to be addressed administratively. Period! an administrative process is on regarding the matter. Period!”
He also claimed that the comedian failed to show up when called upon to explain himself. Dahun further revealed that Ahmad only returned after the expiration of his leave on November 15, 2021. After which he was put in custody.
He however declined further comments on the matter, failing to state when the comedian would be released to his family.
Earlier, comedian Debo Adedayo, best known as, Mr Macaroni, raised the alarm that Cute Abiola might be missing. According to him, the comedian went missing after reporting at his office in Navy Town, Lagos on Monday, November 15, 2021.
However, the Nigerian Navy revealed later in a statement, that the comedian was not missing. They stated that he was detained for contravening the naval laws by posting a video of himself in military uniform on social media. This act is said to be in violation of the armed forces’ social media policy.
