BRITISH rapper, Stephanie Victoria Allen, professionally known as Stefflon Don has expressed concern about the increasing COVID-19-related deaths among Africans.

In a recently-shared post on Instagram, Stefflon Don asked a mind-blogging question; wondering if anyone could give a scientific explanation as to why the black people are dying of the infectious disease disproportionately.

“Can someone explain the scientific reason why ‘black people’ are dying of COVID-19 more? Or we are just going to run with the news. With no explanation?” the dancehall singer and rapper queried.

Since the outbreak of the virus in Wuhan, China late last year, more than 242,000 people around the world have died from the pandemic.

Many of Stefflon Don’s followers on social media have agreed that there is a racial disparity in COVID-19 deaths. While some think the death toll in the black communities is due to the poor health system; others blamed the death toll on racism. According to them, medical practitioners are more concerned about the whites.

Prior to the spread of the coronavirus to sub-Saharan Africa and America, scientists all over the world kept questioning why Africans were not dying from the pandemic. It was as though they expected and maybe even looked forward to it. And now that there is a racial disparity in the deaths, they seem calm.

What’s your take on this? Why do you think more black people are dying from COVID-19?
