Coronavirus: Outrage as Davido Holds Show Amidst Scare

Davido has come under fire on the country’s Twitter sphere for holding a show amidst the coronavirus threats and warnings by the federal and state government to Nigerians to avoid social gatherings and observe social distancing.

The 27-year-old singer performed at a nightclub in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

In a video posted on the Instagram page of Stone Cafe Ibadan, it was confirmed that Davido held the show at the club on Saturday night.

However, On Sunday, Oyo state recorded its first case of coronavirus.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State confirmed this in a statement on Sunday morning.

A quick look at Davido‘s last post on Instagram showed that he visited Governor Seyi Makinde on Saturday before the show.

In a picture he shared on his Instagram page, Davido said he’s been waiting to meet Makinde since he became the governor of Oyo state.

He wrote; “Ever since I first heard of your triumph and good governance in OYO State I’ve been wanting to meet you and I’m glad I did! You truly inspire me and with leaders like you the future is definitely bright! God bless you @seyi_amakinde.”

 

However, aggrieved Nigerians took to Twitter to slam the singer for his careless action. See reactions below.

Lat week Davido informed fans on Instagram that his upcoming “A Good Time” tour/ show in North America has been postponed to a yet announced date. He wrote:

I’m saddened to halt what has been a fantastic sold-out tour so far, but postponing is the right thing to do. The health and safety of my fans and staff is most paramount and nothing else matters. Be safe and see you all soon! God be with us all!”
