In an utterly out of this world experience, American music group Coldplay stuns the world. Their new single, Higher Power is played for the first time from the International Space Station

The track was beamed back to earth by satellite afterwards. Higher Power is a track off of the group’s upcoming album. Coldplay made the magic happen with the help of French astronaut, Thomas Pesquet.

The lead vocalist of the group Chris Martin spoke to Pesquet in a video chat before the performance. “Right now we aren’t able to play for anybody on Earth, so we thought we’d just play for you. It’s like our one-man concert,” Martin said.

Coldplay initially posted a teaser video of the song on TikTok. The music video which lasted only 24 hours also had the band members play in colourful outfits. They could also be seen in front of shipping containers. Alien hologram dancers also added to the aesthetics of the performance.

In a recent tweet, the band revealed that the song “arrived on a little keyboard and a bathroom sink at the start of 2020.”

The band comprises Martin himself, bassist Guy Berryman, lead guitarist Jonny Buckland, and drummer Will Champion. They are booked to perform on American Idols this weekend.

Coldplay released new track, Higher Power

Coldplay will also be performing at the UK Brits Awards next week. The pandemic means that a lot of their recent performances have been virtual. Therefore, fans are looking forward to the world opening again and being able to watch them live.

Higher Power was produced by Swedish songwriter and producer, Max Martin. The retired singer has been involved in classics like, Backstreet Boys’ I want it that way and Britney Spears’ Baby One More Time

Coldplay previously collaborated with Nigerian acts like Femi Kuti, Tiwa Savage and Wizkid. This was in their last album called, Everyday Life. They even had a song called, Eko that references Lagos, Nigeria as “a dream in the distance.”
Higher Power is now available to stream across all music platforms.
