Nigerian Highlife legend and producer, Chris Ajilo, has died at the age of 91.
The veteran singer died on Saturday morning at Wesley Guild Hospital in Ilesha after he was rushed there.
Although no official cause of the singer’s death was released, his friends, Orlando Julius and Latoya Aduke confirmed Ajilo‘s passing in a statement.
“It is a painful loss to us. I took Orlando to see him on Thursday at his house, Pa was so happy,” Aduke said.
Chris Ajilo, whose music has continued to attract both old and young artistes; was extremely famous in Nigeria in the 1950s and 80s.
The singer who hails from Ijebu-Ijesa released some hit tracks like ‘Eko O Gba Gbere’, ‘Ariwo’, ‘Orilonise’, ‘Only You, ‘Tetede’, ‘Ojo Nlo’, and ‘Emi Mimo’.
He was also a producer for Polygram Records who produced several albums notably Chief Olisa Osadebe’s Osondu Owendi.
