While we’re looking forward to hearing Chiwetel Ejiofor voice ‘Scar’ in the upcoming live-action remake of The Lion King, he’s already making his next big career move. Deadline reports that the British-Nigerian actor has joined Charlize Theron in the upcoming film, ‘The Old Guard.’
Chiwetel will play Copley, an ex-CIA operative who hires the fighters for a rescue mission, while Oscar-winner Charlize Theron leads the cast as 5,000-year-old Andronika (Andy) the Scythian, the leader of the warriors and an Amazon who has no idea why she’s still alive.
‘The Old Guard’ tells the story of a small covert group of immortal mercenaries, who must all fight to keep their team together when they discover the existence of a new immortal and their extraordinary abilities are exposed. The action-fantasy film is being helmed by Love & Basketball Director, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and joining Ejiofor and Theron is a talented cast that includes KiKi Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk), Marwan Kenzari (Aladdin), Harry Melling (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), amongst others. Production is reportedly underway, with no official release date fixed yet.
