Veteran Nollywood film director, Chico Ejiro has been in the game for a long time, giving us memorable movies like the 1998 classic “Full Moon” featuring Regina Askia, the more recent 2007 movie “Change of Heart 1&2,” and the latest “Night bus to Lagos”
His tenacity and continual relevance in the Nigerian movie scene does not end at his works hitting the silver screen – he has made longevity a goal on the home-front as well.
Chico Ejiro has been married to his wife, Joy Ejiro who is active in the film as a producer and costumier for over a decade surviving the fallout notorious with ‘celebrity marriages’.
Speaking on the reason for his marital success in an interview with Punch, he said: “Marriages in the entertainment industry rarely work. But our relationship has been able to thrive because we understand each other. We understand that in the entertainment business, one has to be patient and learn a lot. We have to communicate well, otherwise it wouldn’t work. The ladies in the entertainment business believe they are the bosses; and if a woman is trying to be the boss of a man in a marriage, it wouldn’t work.”
As a classic man, he praised his wife for being understanding and a blessing. He stated “It has been great and fantastic. She is a producer and costumier, and she understands the business. She has been in the industry for years. For you to succeed in entertainment, you have to understand the business side of it and inject a lot of creativity into it. Whatever one does, one has to be prayerful, creative and believe in what one is doing. The belief in what I do and what I want to achieve has been my driving force all these years. I also have a wife who believes in what I do; so, she is part of my success story.
