On Friday, December 25, movie enthusiasts woke-up to the news of the demise of Chico Ejiro, a Nollywood filmmaker.
He passed away in the early hours of the day after wrapping up the filming for a new project he was directing.
According to multiple reports, he suffered a seizure after which he passed away.
Ejiro who had been in the industry for more than 30 years, was famous for some Nollywood blockbusters, which include Night Bus to Lagos.
Amongst other projects he handled, Ejiro was a director and producer for Computer Girls (2003), Polygamy 2: The Final Clash (2002) and Ashanti (2003).
Below are the movies that established the late Ejiro as an enigmatic filmmaker:
- Full Moon (1998) -Starring Regina Askia, Pete Edochie, Sola Fosudo, Kanayo O Kanayo, Full Moon is one of the earliest classics directed by Chico Ejiro. The thriller’s first and second parts were released in 1998 to positive reviews especially for Askia’s performance as a possessed teenager.
- Silent Night (1996) -If you remember the infamous fictional Black Arrow cult then Chico Ejiro’s ‘Silent Night’ definitely found its way to your VHS player. Interestingly, the three-part blockbuster was Ramsey Nouah‘s breakout film and also one of Ejiro’s earliest productions. The crime drama also positioned Nollywood veterans like Victoria Iyamah, Kate Henshaw among others.
- Outkast (2001/2002) -The two-part crime thriller starred Sandra Achums, Lilian Bach, Shan George, Sola Sobowale Bukky Wright, and deceased actor, Ashley Nwosu. Based on the story of Italy deportees who return to Lagos and turn to crime to make money. Oukast was arguably the biggest film of 2001.
- Ashanti (2003) -The hit movie starred Sandra Achums, Paul Obazele, Bob-Manuel Udokwu, and popular singer cum actor, Baba Dee. Ashanti was also one of the biggest movies of the early 2000s.
- Deadly Desire (2004) -Starring Richard Mofe Damijo, Susan Patrick, and Emeka Enyiocha, the 2004 blockbuster drama follows the story of a covetous man who attempts to usurp his brother’s property.
