Charly Boy: Why I’m Rebooting My Music Career

Controversial veteran musician Charly Boy has revealed why he is coming back to music after so many years out of the game. The musician, who has been away from the music scene for over a decade, resumes releasing music this year and now he has shared his reasons.

According to Charly Boy, he stepped back all those years ago because he was taking care of his aging parents; which he described as a job he “loved so much”. But when they eventually died, the singer said he had to go back to doing the things he loved.

“It was like Abuja was empty for me,” he said. “There was nothing else to do… So I had to find my way back to Lagos and start to get to all the things that I missed. I missed the music, the performances, running around with young people and learning from them. I missed doing different collaborations and living the best of my life.”

The singer is not only a father but now a grandfather; and with an empty nest, Charly Boy has no responsibilities stopping him from the demands of continuing his music career.

The 70-year-old singer gave his career a reboot in Abuja; where he says he met Falz, Oritse Femi, and Sound Sultan. Charly Boy says he loves to work with younger artistes because they inspire him and help him “stay fresh and youthful”.

Charly Boy announced that he is releasing a new single about the massacre at Lekki Toll Gate on October 20; proving that there’s no age limit on following your passion.
