It’s hard to imagine seeing your favourite celebrities doing anything other than being on TV acting or at events; or anyone trading in a life of stardom for anything else.
But here are 5 celebrities that work normal low-key jobs, some while still maintaining their careers in Hollywood
1. Jack Gleeson
Few TV characters have inspired the kind of anger and hatred as Joffrey Baratheon in Game of Thrones; so much so that fans cheered as he choked and died.
By all accounts, the actor behind the character, Jack Gleeson, is nothing at all like Joffrey. Gleeson retired from acting once the show ended; after acting since he was 8 years old.
Gleeson now works small roles in a theatre company in New York instead of taking advantage of the big roles GoT would have ushered in for him. Unlike many celebrities, Gleeson does not look forward to a life of fame.
2. Erykah Badu
Grammy Award-winning neo-soul artiste Erykah Badu has been a practicing doula (non-medical midwife) since 2001, helping dozens of mothers deliver their babies either at home or in birthing rooms.
Badu refers to her role as “the welcoming committee” as she helps usher new life into the world and serves as a calming presence for new mothers. She told Origin magazine that she learned on her own.
3. Kevin Jonas
At the peak of their fame, the Jonas Brothers released platinum albums and packed arenas with adoring tween and teen fans. They even had their own TV show on Disney Channel.
When they split up in 2012, the eldest, Kevin, and his wife had a reality TV show together. During the Jonas Brothers hiatus, Kevin embraced a passion far removed from the pop star life. He became a contractor for home renovations.
4. Dylan Sprouse
Speaking of Disney stars, Dylan Sprouse is another star that shifted his focus from acting. Dylan and his twin brother Cole are best known for starring in the Disney Channel sitcom The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.
But while his brother Cole went on to star in movies like Five Feet Apart and the series Riverdale, Dylan decided to open his own brewery called All-Wise in Brooklyn, New York.
But Dylan hasn’t hung up his acting cap for good as he stars in a soon-to-be-released rom-com called Banana Split this year.
5. Jeremy Renner
In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Hawkeye has a running gag about how he is always doing renovations on his house. Perhaps that was a way for the filmmakers to give a nod to Renner’s real-life passion; house-flipping.
What Renner does is that he manages housing renovation projects and sells the houses for a profit. He said, “With the houses we build, I make decisions about furniture, designs, everything down to the sheets”.
