American rapper Cardi B has filed for divorce from Offset, her husband of three years with whom she has a two-year-old daughter Kulture. Online court records reveal that the Grammy winner filed for dissolution of her marriage to Offset in Fulton County, Georgia on September 14.
According to court documents, Cardi and her legal team said the marriage is “irretrievably broken” and “there are no prospects for reconciliation”. She is seeking custody of their daughter and asking for child support from Offset. Cardi B hopes the divorce “will be settled by agreement of the parties.”
Her husband, a member of the rap group Migos, is notorious for cheating on her. Cardi B had decided on calling it quits in December 2018, about a year into their marriage. But Offset publicly admitted to his infidelity and plead for forgiveness.
Offset took over the stage with a big presentation of flowers and cake that read, “TAKE ME BACK CARDI”. The rapper said at the time, “All of my wrongs have been made public, I figure it’s only right that my apologies are made public too.”
The couple got back together and agreed to make it work for their daughter. Cardi B opened up about the issue in an interview in January.
“When me and my husband got into our issues—you know, he cheated and everything—and I decided to stay with him and work together with him, a lot of people were so mad at me,” Cardi shared in Vogue’s January 2020 issue. “A lot of women felt disappointed in me.”
The rapper continued, “But it’s real-life sh*t. If you love somebody and you stop being with them. And you’re depressed and social media is telling you not to talk to that person because he cheated. You’re not really happy on the inside until you have the conversation.”
Offset also said in an interview that her forgiveness made him truly appreciate her and they were getting to know each other more. However, barely a year into their reconciliation, a fresh round of cheating rumours have surfaced online.
“You know, I know babe, you’ve done some dumb sh*t. Everybody knows he’s done some dumb sh*t. But come on now, [he’s] not dumb, he’s not crazy,” Cardi said, addressing the rumours. “We’ve been so good, we had a sweet weekend. Our life has been good, he’s not going to play himself like that. That’s why I’m not going to entertain that, that’s why I’m not getting rowdy. Simple as that.”
It appears though that Offset did play himself. Just a few days ago Cardi also posted a cryptic quote to her Instagram story, “Her heart finally told her to stop wasting her time,” along with the caption, “it’s time 😉.”
Neither Cardi B nor Offset have publicly spoken about the impending divorce.
