Burna Boy’s sister responds to Davido’s ‘New Cat’ comment

Nissi Ogulu has responded to Davido‘s remark on Burna Boy as a ‘new cat’.

Nigerian Twitter was abuzz on Thursday with discussions when Davido referred to Burna Boy as a ‘new cat’ during an interview with a French publication.

The video clip, shared by an influential individual on Twitter, quickly sparked a divide among fans of both artists, who strongly disagreed about the accuracy of the classification.

During the interview, Davido confidently claimed that he and Wizkid were the pioneering artists to achieve international recognition from Nigeria, leading the way for Afrobeats to gain a global audience.

He proceeded to mention a few emerging talents, including Rema, Fireboy, Mayorkun, Asake, and Burna Boy, as part of the new wave shaping the Afrobeats scene.

In response to Davido’s statement, Nissi Ogulu, Burna Boy’s younger sister and a musician herself, took to her Instagram story to express her reaction.

She shared a video of her joyously dancing at Burna Boy’s recent historic London Stadium concert, which attracted a staggering 60,000 fans. Nissi captioned the video with the words “New cats are facing their hustle.”

Davido’s remark sparked extensive discussions across social media platforms, with some individuals endorsing the classification by highlighting Burna Boy’s breakthrough in 2018 with the hit track ‘YE.’

Conversely, there were others who opposed the notion, citing Burna Boy’s early success dating back to his 2012 smash hit ‘Like To Party’ as evidence that he cannot be categorized as a new cat.
