One of the biggest and most anticipated celebration of African music awards in the diaspora, the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) is about to go down. The list of nominees has been released and voting has commenced. Our Nigerian favourites have not failed to represent as they bagged multiple nominations, with Burna Boy leading the pack.
2019 has been an exceptionally fruitful year for African music, especially Nigerian music; from Beyoncé enlisting some of Africa’s brightest stars for her “Lion King: The Gift” album, to the likes of Adekunle Gold and Runtown featuring on projects with foreign artistes. There seems to be a flow of surprise for lovers of Nigerian music on a steady.
Burna Boy has a total of seven nominations, including “Artist of the Year” and “Song of the Year” – for both “On The Low” and the Zlatan-assisted “Killin Dem”.
Alongside Burna Boy, Rema and Wizkid also bagged a bunch of major nominations, with Wizkid scoring “Artist of the Year” and “Song of the Year” for “Fever”, while Rema, who also nabbed a “Song of the Year” nomination for “Dumebi”, in addition to his nomination for “Best Newcomer” award.
AFRIMMA 2019 is set to hold in Dallas on October 26 and 27.
