Looks like Burna’s most recent sobriquet, African Giant, fits perfectly, as he features on Trevor Noah’s global comedy programme, “The Daily Show”; the show boasts of 24 Primetime Emmy Awards.
Following the release of his “African Giant” album, Burna, born Damini Ogulu, has blown the mind of many across borders with stunning live performances and “The Daily Show” is no exception.
The show is an American primetime talk show that is centered on socially and culturally relevant issues while employing the use of Satire and self-deprecatory humor.
The 28-year old “Dangote” crooner on Tuesday night, appeared alongside Mark Sanford, a former US representative and former Governor of South Carolina at the show.
News Agency of Nigeria reports that Burna performed hit tracks “Ye” and “Anybody”, amidst loud cheers and applause from the excited audience.
Recall that Burna Boy gushed over the Coachella Valley and Arts Music Festival poster in January, accusing the organizers of disrespecting his name by writing it in small fonts.
Speaking with Noah, Burna explained the reasons for his outburst.
According to him, he had never faced such level of discourtesy, as he is used to being a “giant”.
In his words, “I am looking for my name and I can’t find my name. I am like – am I really performing? They had to circle it for me. That’s never happened to me before. I am used to being the African giant”.
“I didn’t like it and I expressed myself. Not just for that but so, everyone that comes after me won’t have to go through that,” he said.
Noah however noted that Burna’s influence as an artist is being underestimated in Nigeria and Africa.
Burna Boy boasts of many more wins this year, following his feature on Beyonce’s “The Gift” album on the song “Ja Ara E” and his BET Award win for the Best International Act two months ago.
