American singer-songwriter, Britney Spears, has lost a court bid to end her father’s strict control over her life and career.
Jamie Spears, has been his daughter’s legal conservator for 12 years, after she suffered a public breakdown in 2007 and had temporarily stepped aside from the role in 2019, citing health problems, but was due to resume the role this year.
The singer’s lawyer, Samuel D Ingham III had told judge Brenda Penny in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, that Britney is scared of her father and will not resume her singing career while he has power over it
“My client has informed me that she is afraid of her father. She will not perform again if her father is in charge of her career,” he said,
However, judge Penny declined to suspend Mr Spears‘ role but did say she would consider future petitions for his suspensions or removal.
She went on to approve Britney Spears‘ request that a corporate fiduciary, the Bessemer Trust, will now serve as co-conservator over her estate along with her father.
The singer had begun behaving erratically back in 2007 after her divorce from Kevin Federline, her ex-husband, and later lost custody of their two children, although she’s allowed frequent visits.
