British-Nigerian Rappers, Dave & Little Simz, have had their respective albums shortlisted for the 2019 Mercury Prize. Dave released his debut album “Psychodrama” in March while Little Simz dropped “Grey Area” around the same time.
Considered the music equivalent of the Booker Prize for literature or the Turner Prize for art, the Mercury Prize is one of the most prestigious music prizes in the UK, awarded each year to the “Album of the Year”, released in the UK by a British or Irish artiste.
Open to all genres, the Mercury Prize received over 200 albums – between the eligibility period of July 21, 2018, and July 19, 2019 – with “Psychodrama” and “Grey Area” being shortlisted as one of the 12 albums.
All shortlisted artists receive an “Album of the Year” trophy, and the winner will receive an additional “Winner” trophy, as well as a £25,000 cash prize and the honour of being named the winner of such a notable music award.
The winner will be announced on September 29
