Brian Dennehy, ‘Tommy Boy’ Star, Dies at 81

Brian Dennehy, US actor of film, stage and television, has passed away at 81. Elizabeth Dennehy, his daughter broke the sad news on Twitter.

According to her, Dennehy died from “natural causes” on Wednesday and not of COVID-19. She added that he would be greatly missed by Jennifer, his wife, as well as family and friends.

“It is with heavy hearts we announce that our father, Brian passed away last night from natural causes, not Covid-related. Larger than life, generous to a fault, a proud and devoted father and grandfather. He will be missed by his wife Jennifer, family and many friends,” she wrote.

Born on July 9 1938, Dennehy was a prominent name in Hollywood. He had a blissful acting career which spanned 5 decades on the stage and screen.

The actor made his TV and feature debut in 1977, a year in which he made appearances in at least 10 series or telepics, including ‘Kojak,’ ‘MASH’ and ‘Lou Grant,’ and the films ‘Looking for Mr. Goodbar’ and ‘Semi-Tough.’ From that point he maintained a heavy work load for decades.

He first came to the spotlight after starring as Sheriff Will Teasle in ‘First Blood’, Rambo movie by Sylvester Stallone, fellow actor.

Brian Dennehy, also featured in other prominent movies including ‘Tommy Boy’, ‘Cocoon’, and ‘Death of a Salesman’.

His blistering career saw him won a bevy of prestigious awards including Golden Globe Award, two Tony awards while he was also a recipient of six Primetime Emmy Award nomination.
