In this article, the author will explain the importance of starting afresh. Each day brings us the opportunity to begin again, to start life from where we are and continue to pursue the objective of our individuality and seeking freedom, whatever that means to you.
The average Nigerian youth is embarking on a journey that they simply do not understand. In higher institutions, they are only there simply because they want to either leave the house or make their parents proud. The Nigerian education system isn’t structured to properly aid in the development of young scholars who are trying to achieve the aims and objectives of their respective lives. At the tender age of 16 (which is the average age to round up secondary school), most students get admission into higher institution, while they are there, they are given courses that neither aligns with their strength and essence, hence, they spend the first quarter of their lives meandering through a quagmire of maze without proper guidance or a sense of purpose.
In the Nigerian system, a fish is expected to soar in the air like a bird, while the bird would be slurred ‘a dullard’ for gasping for air while drowning in the sea, and then, there is the tortoise who just couldn’t find a way into the system. Everyone is chasing progress backwards in Nigeria, this describes why the rate of underemployment is immense in the most populous Black nation.

There isn’t a fair chance for proper development- there are no curricula designed to help the burgeoning generations who feel lost and are unable to execute the skillset, talent, and potential instilled in them by the creator.
“You Can Work Anywhere With This Course”
Before undergoing the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination, onlookers, acquaintances, and older relatives would ask, “So, what course are you studying?” If it isn’t Engineering, Computer Science, Law, Architecture, or Medicine, every other course is perceived as irrelevant. Courses such as Mass Communication, Microbiology, Industry Chemistry, Human Psychology, etc., are dubbed “you can work anywhere” type of courses. They are given little to no preference due to how the Nigerian education system is structured, and this is simply a reflection of the Nigerian stratosphere in its entirety.

The Nigerian system takes nothing seriously, not even the political or ruling class. Their objective has always been to siphon funds and demean those whom they perceive to be beneath them; nothing of value comes from them (similar to the Nigerian education system).

Free Yourself, Begin Again
This isn’t an article designed to discuss the ills in our society, instead, it is composed for those who are struggling to find a new meaning to life. Life can sometimes be tedious and discomforting, albeit the only way forward to by accepting the current situation and making necessary adjustments as soon as possible.
To begin again, you first have to be born again (not physically), but emotionally and psychologically. You need to pick yourself up and adjust your medulla oblongata from the mediocrity of every life in the Nigerian system.
Decide not to be lukewarm; instead, pick yourself up and go again. Study that course that would bring progress into your life- focus on your grind and continue to pursue excellence daily.
Here are various platforms to learn those development skills- Coursera, Alison, Udemy, the list goes on. Never let anyone limit you, not Nigeria, not even yourself.
