After 27 years together, Dear White People actor, Blair Underwood and his wife, Desiree DaCosta are getting a divorce.

The couple got married back in 1994 and have three kids together, son Paris, 24, daughter Brielle, 22, and son Blake,19.

The announcement signed by the couple got posted on Instagram by Blair Underwood.

The statement read,

“After a tremendous amount of thought, prayer & work on ourselves individually & collectively, we have come to the conclusion to end our marriage that began 27 years ago. It has truly been a beautiful journey. Our proudest achievements are our three incredible children. Three souls to which God entrusted us.

In a 2008 interview with Oprah, Underwood had spoken about his relationship with DaCosta. He mentioned how he had watched his dad provide for his mum and he knew he wanted to do exactly that with his wife.

“I wanted to be her rock, her protector. If she had a problem, I wanted to solve it. I thought that’s what was expected of me.” he said.

However, he had to learn that he didn’t need to always fix everything. According to the one-time Grammy award winner, sometimes she just needed his support and needed him to listen and not try to solve the situation.

“I felt relieved as well, she didn’t expect me to always have an answer for her,” he said. “She wasn’t coming to me for a repair. She just needed a shoulder to cry on”.

Blair Underwood, 56, first rose to fame in the late ’80s on the NBC drama L.A. Law. He also has two Golden Globes nominations and won a Grammy in 2009 for spoken word album, An Inconvenient Truth
