Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo, or Blackface as we know him, recently explained the latest controversies surrounding the release of his own version of “African Queen” in an interview on Max 102.3FM
Blackface explained that he had been seeing so many other upcoming acts making their own versions of the song, with none of them consulting him, despite the fact he wrote most of the song.
This, according to him, had driven his interest in making his own version and singing it the way he really envisioned when he sat down to pen the classic hit.
“African Queen”; a 2014 hit by former Plantashun Boiz member, 2baba Idibia in 2004, created bad blood between the duo. Blackface claimed to have composed the song and even demanded for its ownership.
Replying to a question asked about the existence of any bad blood among the separated Plantashun Boiz, Blackface explained that he does not have time to be bothered about whatever is on their minds (2baba and Faze).
He said he has been working on rebuilding the defunct group and made it known that the group, Plantashun Boiz, will bounce back with or without the presence of the former members.
According to him, rebuilding the group does not have to involve 2baba and Faze due to the fact that he owns the franchise and it’s his personal project. He said he could decide to bring artistes like Johnny Drille or Seyi Shay to work for the group.
