Marsai Martin critics

“Black-ish” star Marsai Martin shuts down trolls and critics on Twitter who had a lot of negative things to say about her hair and teeth during the BET Awards.

This year’s virtual BET Awards, where Martin presented the best female hip-hop award to Megan Thee Stallion. Following the show, some viewers made negative comments about her hairstyle and teeth.

In response, Martin swiftly clapped back with a message on Twitter.

“Sorry some of y’all don’t like my hair,” she tweeted. “Or teeth … which are my actual teeth btw. Good thing I don’t put my effort into trying to please everyone. I like it.”

Telling the critics to “let her live,” Marsai Martin added, “I’m trying to stay sane in quarantine.” Since posting, Martin’s tweet has received more than 121,000 likes and over 13,000 retweets.

Following the tone of her tweet, the 15-year-old actress also posted an Instagram video addressing the trolls who picked on her looks. She began the video by saying, “So I was on Twitter, and a lot of people have been addressing my hair, or talking about my hair and how it looks like a grandma’s wig,” she said in a sentimental tone.

Martin continued on, “They’re talking about my veneers,” she said as she pulled a retainer from her teeth. “This don’t look like a veneer to me.”

She went on to say, “I’m sorry to anyone that I offended or haven’t gotten to your expectations about how I’m supposed to be, and I apologize, and I never want to hurt anyone’s feelings or have anyone worried about what my decisions are.”

Later in the clip, she breaks her apologetic character by blowing her nose with a $100 bill.
