The management of ThisDay Newspaper has suspended two of its deputy editors, Mr. Yemi Ajayi and Mr. Olawale Olaleye, over the story: “Drama as US Embassy Denies Bishop Oyedepo Visa,” published last Friday.
According to ThisDday Newspaper, the story, which claimed that the celebrated Nigerian pastor was denied visa by the US Embassy, was subsequently refuted by the embassy to be false.
Following the rebuttal, the newspaper management investigated the publication and found that the two deputy editors failed to follow its well established traditions of carrying out the necessary checks and confirmations expected of personnel of their status in a sensitive story of that nature. They were, therefore, suspended indefinitely, the newspaper reports.
The newspaper had on Saturday published a Corrigendum, acknowledging the error in the publication, and apologised to the revered Bishop for the embarrassment the story might have caused him.
Just yesterday, Popular Nigerian comedian, Bovi demanded an apology from ThisDay newspaper following its apology to Popular Nigerian pastor, Bishop Oyedepo for a published false report that he was denied U.S visa. In the initial report by ThisDay, it was boldly written that Bovi was issued a U.S visa while his wife was denied.
Bovi took to his Twitter page on Tuesday to demand an apology from the newspaper, stating that the apology was incomplete since he and his wife were not mentioned. He claimed that he was emotionally affected by the report .
The comedian went on the offensive and added that he and his wife were used as a spice in cooking the poisonous report but were left out when it was time to apologise.
