The presence of the African voice on Beyonce’s “Lion King” Album has spurred excitement on the internet, especially in the heart of Nigerians.
The American singer, songwriter/actress, Beyonce Knowles-Carter, in an interview, explains why she featured African acts on the album.
According to her, the theme of the album influenced her selection of the artistes as she wanted originality on the piece.
She disclosed that she was in search of the most talented artistes in Africa, hence her choice; some of the artistes on the album are Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Tekno , Wizkid and Ghana’s Shatta Wale among others.
“This is a sonic cinema. This is a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip hop and Afro Beat.”
“I wanted to put everyone on their own journey to link the story line. Each song was written to reflect the film’s storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine their own imagery while listening to a new contemporary interpretation.”
“It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers. Authenticity and heart were important to me”, Beyonce stated.
The Queen also featured African producers from Ghana and Nigeria on the album.
