Beyonce’s foundation, BeyGOOD, in collaboration with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), announced that they would be awarding a total of $1 million grants to Black-owned small businesses affected by “recent events across the country.”
“Over the last couple of months, the pandemic and outpours for justice throughout the Black community; and across the country have been felt in every imaginable area of our lives; including in how our local businesses continue to operate,” the NAACP website reads.
“The challenges of Black business owners navigating in the climate cannot be understated; as the effects of uprisings across the nation have led to many businesses being placed in dire straits; due to damages and other small business needs.”
This is the second round of funding for Black-owned businesses that BeyGOOD and NAACP are collaborating on.
Beyoncé first launched BeyGOOD in 2013 as a global initiative to encourage others to be kind to each other; as well as to the community, and the world at large. The foundation has partnered with programs to help communities across the United States, Europe, Africa, South America, and the Caribbean.
On June 19th or Juneteenth, Beyonce released a new song titled Black Parade. She then proceeded to feature Black businesses from all over the world on her personal website.
Recipients of the exposure given by Beyonce’s massive platform have reported high profits and backorders on their products; as they have sold out completely.
Beyonce’s benevolence to the Black community has also extended to hurricane relief in her home town of Houston, Texas; which suffered greatly from Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
In addition to that, all the proceeds from her Savage remix; on which she collaborated with fellow Houston native Megan Thee Stallion, went towards COVID-19 relief in Texas.
