BBNaija season 4 runner up, Mike Edwards and his wife Perri Shakes-Drayton have become parents for the first time.
The couple welcomed a baby boy who they named Mathew Olaoluwa Edwards on Wednesday.
The proud father took to his Twitter page to share labour room pictures and an emotional clip that captures his wife’s delivery through water birth.
In the picture, Mike is seen holding their baby closely as Perri beams with smiles.
“Black women are five times likely to die in pregnancy and childbirth. In the words of John Boyega, We need to care for them. They’re us. They’re our future. We can’t demonize our own,” Mike said.
“We are the pillars of the family. To my wife, @itspsd you’re nothing short of amazing, and I’m so proud to be your husband and twice as excited that you’re the mother to our baby boy.”
In the video, Perri is seen in a bath tub filled with water screaming and pushing with a sense of urgency.
Mike is a high-jump athlete and entrepreneur. He runs his male grooming and Cigar company, Aireyys, the first black-owned cigar line in the United Kingdom.
Perri is a retired British track and field athlete. She is the 2013 European Indoor Champion in the 400 metres; and won a 2012 World Indoor Championship gold medal in the 4 x 400 metres relay. She has also won silver and bronze medals in the 4 × 400 m relay at the World Championships.
