Popular singer and actor, Bankola Wellington otherwise known as Banky W, has shared an important lesson artiste can learn from music star, 2Baba.
During his online service, Banky W discussed his first experience with the Opo singer.
Banky W said they first met at a concert in the United States of America many years ago, adding that he was an up and coming artiste as the time.
According to him, 2Baba showed him humility despite the obvious social stratification that was deployed at the concert.
Banky W noted that 2Baba must have made some mistakes at some points in his career, and the humility he carries is no doubt responsible for his flourishing career, which he said has lasted for decades.
While addressing his audience, he insisted that artistes must humiliate the humility 2Baba has to be relevant and flourish.
His words: “Many years ago before I rose to stardom, I mean when I was an up and coming artiste, there was this show at the United States, and at the show, there was a headliner, and a old school artiste who has obviously done amazing things during his prime, he was at the tale end of his career, he has passed on now and may his soul rest in peace.
“So at the show, there was a headliner who was at the peak of his career, and an oldschool who has literally passed his moment, and there was an up and coming artiste who was just starting out.
“The headliner was closing the show, the up and coming artiste who was just starting out had like 10 minutes on stage, and the oldschool artiste had few more minutes than the up and coming guy. But obviously, there was a difference between where this headlining artiste was and these other two guys.
“The show was an amazing one, and most people who came were there only for the headliner. So, at the after-party, the organisers really made this exclusion and were like -okay -the headliner, you stay here, you have this massive VIP session, the up and coming artiste, you will stand on the edge here, and the oldschool guy, stand on the edge there.
“So having done this, the headliner noticed the difference and was like no no no! He told them to scrap the other tables for the up and coming and the oldschool and told them to sit next to him. The headliner humbled himself and was like, exalt these guys, we were all artistes after all.
“Guess who the headliner was…it was 2Baba, the up and coming, was myself, and the oldschool artiste was Majek Fashek. This show was the first time I met him, and from that moment on, he embraced me and at the same time, embraced Majek Fashek. From that time, we became cool, and he has been my friend till today.
“And if you ask anyone about 2Baba, they will tell you this guy carries humility. Now, is it any surprise that 2baba, over the course of his career that has lasted decades, is still successful… is till been honoured…relevant? It’s not because he doesn’t make mistakes or hasn’t messed up, but it’s because he carries humility in his heart.”
