The British Academy of Film and Television Arts, BAFTA Film Awards took place on Sunday, February 2 at London’s Royal Albert Hall with Graham Norton giving an open speech that addressed the lack of diversity in this year’s nominations.
The World War I drama “1917” led among the winners with six awards, including best film and best director for Sam Mendes.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts just like this year’s Oscar Awards stoked controversy for the lack of diversity among the nominees.
One of the evening’s most powerful moments came when Joaquin Phoenix, who won Best Actor for his role in Joker, delivered a speech that saw him express “his shame” at being among the all-white acting nominees.
Meanwhile, Brad Pitt, via his fellow actor, Margot Robbie, cracked a Brexit and Prince Harry Joke – in front of Prince William – and Hugh Grant made a hilarious Bridget Jones reference after his former co-star Renée Zellweger won Best Actress for Judy.
