Tunde Kelani’s movie, ‘Ayinla,’ clinched the ‘Best African Narrative Feature’ award at the 2022 Pan African Film Festival.

Kelani who could not hide his excitement made the announcement through an Instagram post on Thursday.

He then used the medium to praise everyone who contributed to the success of the movie.

He wrote “Ayinla wins Programmer’s Best African Narrative Award PAFF Los Angeles 2022. Congratulations to our talents crew, executive producers, producers, and our rep team in Los Angeles and Pakistan.

“Thanks and God’s blessings. Tk Ayinla coming soon on NETFLIX.”

Ayinla’ bothers on the events leading to the tragic death of Apala legend, Ayinla Omowura.

The film features Nollywood stars such as  Adedimeji Lateef who plays the role of Ayinla Omowura, Kunle Afolayan, Bimbo Ademoye, Mr Macaroni, Omowunmi Dada, Ade Laoye, Jumoke Otedola and Bimbo Manuel.

The film premiered on June 13 in Lagos and hit cinemas on June 18, 2021.

In 2020, Tunde Kelani in an interview on Channels TV‘s Nollywood Uncut, said the production is based on Ayinla Omowura’s music and personality.

On why Abeokuta, the state capital of Ogun State, is the shooting destination of the movie, Kelani explained that Omowura got all his musical ideas and essence from there.

“I grew up hearing Ayinla Omowura, and you know Abeokuta produce many names… I’m sure you’ve heard of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti whom I knew very well and followed. And then, there is Ebenezer Obey, who’s conservative.

“Fela was like an elite, unlike Ayinla Omowura who came from a very poor background. He had to fend for himself and he had a talent that is very hard to replicate. I doubt if Ayinla Omowura could have come from any other part of the world, except Abeokuta,” Kelani added.
