Musk on SNL

In the early hours of this morning, Elon Musk appeared on the comedy show, Saturday Night Live for the first time. Eelive reported yesterday, that fans were unsure what to expect when the show airs. The long-standing comedy show created a huge buzz when it announced Musk would play host.

The show which aired last night in America, also featured, pop star, Miley Cyrus. However, in case you missed the show, here are some highlights for you.

Musk reveals he has Asperger syndrome.

The multibillionaire space and electric-car entrepreneur explained that he struggled to get people to know if he means what he says. This is a major feature of the condition which is a form of Autism. “It’s great to be hosting Saturday Night Live, and I really mean it. Sometimes after I say something, I have to say that I mean it,” the 49-year-old said in his introductory monologue.

Musk went on to say that he was the first person with the syndrome to host the comedy show. He quickly adds that at least he would be the first to admit it. It would seem like this is the first time the businessman would make the admission publicly.

Known for his controversial statements on Twitter, Musk says the condition may have something to do with it. Implying that there is a high chance he was grossly misunderstood. He said, “Look, I know I sometimes say or post strange things, but that’s just how my brain works.”

“To anyone who’s been offended, I just want to say I reinvented electric cars, and I’m sending people to Mars in a rocket ship. Did you think I was also going to be a chill, normal dude?,” Musk jokes.

High-functioning Autism?

According to the Autism Society website, “Asperger’s syndrome (also known as Asperger’s Disorder) was first described in the 1940s by Viennese paediatrician Hans Asperger.” The paediatrician had “observed autism-like behaviours and difficulties with social and communication skills in boys who had normal intelligence and language development.”

Although it is termed as “simply a milder form of autism and used the term “high-functioning autism” to describe these individuals.” However, “Uta Frith, a professor at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience of University College London and editor of Autism and Asperger Syndrome, describes individuals with Asperger’s as “having a dash of autism.”

Elon Musk as an actor

Elon Musk takes also a go at acting again as he takes on different roles on the show. He was a guest on the Weekend Update of the show. He plays a financial expert that goes by the names, Lloyd Ostertag. However, jokes were made about cryptocurrency throughout the show.

However, this is not all great for Dogecoin owners. The cryptocurrency which began to rise following Musk’s tweets about it and his appearance on the show went back down. Just before the show, the value of Dogecoin fell by about 12% from late Friday, US Pacific time.

Special Appearance by Maye Musk

A special tribute was made to mothers on the show to celebrate International Mother’s Day today. The casts including headlining act, Miley Cyrus shared special moments with their mothers on screen. Musk was also not left out. He had a special cameo with his mother, Maye Musk.

The 64-year-old model revealed what Musk was like as a 12-years-old. He shared a funny dialogue with his mom on the screen where she tells him she loves him and makes more cryptocurrency jokes. “I am excited for my Mother’s Day gift, I just hope it’s not Dogecoin,” she says. Maye Musk is a Canadian-South African supermodel and dietician.

This particular episode of the show was live-streamed on YouTube worldwide. This would also be the first time an episode was globally viewable simultaneously around the world.
