August Alsina, an American singer and songwriter, has confirmed that he had a love affair with Jada Pinkett Smith, and that Will Smith, her husband, “gave him his blessing”.
There have been rumours that Jada and Smith have been in an open marriage for years with Pinkett shutting down the rumours.
While speaking with radio personality Angela Yee, discussing his new album The Product III: stateofEMERGEncy, the 27-year-old singer exacerbated the speculations that he had a relationship with Jada, 48.
During the interview, Alsina spoke about his relationship with Jada, the loss of his sister, his rare autoimmune disease, among others.
“I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation. Due to the transformation from their marriage to their life partnership that they spoken on several times, and not involving romanticism, he gave me his blessing,” he stated.
He also disclosed that he fell in love with Pinkett and lost “money, friendships [and] relationships” because of rumours of having a secret affair with her. August Alsina added that he thinks “it’s because people don’t necessarily know the truth, but he never did anything wrong.”
“I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life. I truly and really, really deeply loved, and have a ton of love for her. I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it. So much so to the point that I can die right now and be OK with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody.
“I really loved the person that I experienced that [with] and know what [that feels] like – if some people never get that in this lifetime.
“I know that I am completely blessed and this conversation is difficult because it is so much, that it would be hard for people to understand but — once it starts to affect me and my livelihood — I have to speak up about my truth.
“I love those people literally like my family. I don’t have a bad thing to say about them. They are beautiful people.”
“So much so that being intertwined in that way — walking away from it butchered me. I’m shakin’ right now because it almost killed me. Not almost. It did — it pushed me into being another person, my newer self. It. Broke. Me. Down.”
This is coming after Jada Pinkett Smith said that she and the Bad Boys star haven’t faced any cheating issues in their relationship in a June 2019 Red Table Talk episode. The actress however, did recall how she’s been in instances in the past where she’s been cheated on and been the one to step out on her partner.
A representative for Pinkett, however, told Page Six that Alsina’s claims are “absolutely not true”.
Jada and Will have been married since 1997. The union has been blessed with two children — Jaden, 21, and 19-year-old Willow.
