Nigerian ace footballer, Asisat Oshoala made history as the first African and Nigeria woman to win the Champions League title. Oshoala achieved this feat alongside her current football team, Barcelona Femeni.
The football star helped her team win nine games with four goals. Barcelona Femeni won the Champions League title following a 4-0 win against Chelsea Women yesterday.
Oshoala joined the game in the 71st minute to take the win against their opponents. The young was also a part of the games played during the course of the championship. The 26-year-old scored four goals throughout the season.
The first was in the round of 32 against Dutch club, Philips Sport Vereniging (PSV). Oshoala went on to score her second goal against Manchester City in the next round. She scored two more goals in the quarter-final rounds against the same team.
Oshoala makes African history
Oshoala played a good game each time. Barcelona’s only goal in the second leg of the quarter final was from the Nigerian star. It was the only goal of an away game that was lost to Manchester City.
This is one of many for the African star who continues to break barriers. Oshoala is easily the most successful in Nigerian women’s football. So far, she has 10 titles in her club career.
In 2019, she made history as the first African and Nigerian to score in a Champions League final. A game her team unfortunately lost to Lyon in the first half. However, this comeback is a great win for both Oshoala and her team.
Oshoala’s team is now still in the running for the Copa de la Reina. They are set to play Madrid CFF in the semifinals. A win at that could mean another title and another record in the bag for the Nigerian superstar.
