Blackface, a former member of the iconic Afrobeats group Plantainshun Boiz, has accused Asake of plagiarizing his song ‘Ikebe Supper’ for his hit single ‘Joha.’

Blackface remains in the news due to his claims of copyright infringement by various artists.

In a recent interview with Naija FM, Blackface alleged that Asake copied his song for ‘Joha,’ one of the tracks from Asake’s 2022 debut album ‘Joha.’

Expressing his frustration, Blackface stated that he feels hurt by the unauthorized use of his songs by Afrobeats stars. He compared it to child molestation, considering his music as his child.

When questioned about why his writing with Plantainshun Boiz carried the group’s name instead of his own, Blackface explained that he wanted to present a united front and avoid singling out any individual.

Blackface has also claimed ownership of the mega-hit record ‘African Queen,’ originally performed by his former Plantainshun Boiz bandmate, 2baba.

The foundation of Blackface’s claim lies in the phrase “Ikebe Supper,” which Asake used in ‘Joha.’ However, the two songs differ in progression, beat pattern, and melody.

It’s worth noting that ‘Joha’ was initially recorded around 2014 when Asake was still a student at Obafemi Awolowo University. The version released in 2022 is a remake of the original recording.
