Made Kuti, the grandson of late music legend Fela Kuti, will stage his second solo event at the Terra Culture arena. Tagged An Evening with Made Kuti, the exclusive event will hold on Friday, July 2, 2021.

This, however, comes as the artist basks in the success of his recent debut headline gig at The New African Shrine. He hosted the event after releasing a joint album with his dad called Legacy Plus

For this solo headline event, Made will also introduce his own band, The Movement, to the audience. His young, growing audience comprises fans, music connoisseurs, brands, diplomats, and others.

Packaged by FK Management, An Evening With Made Kuti is made possible in partnership with many partners. They include Legend Extra Stout, Mainstreet Capital, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, and also Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS).

Speaking ahead of the gig, Made Kuti explained:

“The aim is to extend my performance beyond the New Afrika Shrine and create opportunities for new fans and brands alike to experience my art.

“This special showcase creates high-quality engagements and reaches an audience composed of young adults, business professionals and expatriates who enjoy Afrobeat and support the Kuti legacy.”

Before An Evening With Made Kuti

In April, Made Kuti gave his fans a taste of what to expect during his performance. He reportedly performed at the New African Shrine with his newly formed band, The Movement. Together, they performed songs such as Free Your Mind and his stellar rendition of Fela’s Trouble Sleep.

In February, the multi-talented instrumentalist released his debut album, For(e)ward in February 2021, packaged together with his father’s album Stop the Hate. Both albums make up separate sides of a double album titled, Legacy+. Made Kuti features on both projects; he plays bass on Stop the Hate and every instrument on For(e)ward.

Made spent his early years growing up in The New Afrika Shrine. He was surrounded by music early on, fiddling with instruments as a toddler. He played the trumpet when he was three years old and took to the sax at five. Made also played the piano at eight, the drums and guitar at 12, and the bass at 15. As a child, he also toured the world with his father’s Positive Force band. They played in legendary venues like Glastonbury and the Hollywood Bowl.

He studied at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London – where Fela attended. Made is a multi-instrumentalist composer who plays up to six instruments including the saxophone, trumpet, guitar and bass.

For(e)ward is a modern manifesto, pushing the boundaries of Afrobeat. With it, Made addresses Nigeria’s many societal ills such as poor governance, social inequality, and police brutality. Continuing with the Kuti legacy of speaking up for the everyday Nigerian, Made and his father nevertheless took to the streets to partake in the 2020 #ENDSARS protests, which denounced police brutality in Nigeria.
