Amy Winehouse’s last performance dress sold for over $240,000

The dress worn by American singer, Amy Winehouse on her last performance dress before her death has been sold for over $243,000 (over 100 million naira) in an auction of items from her estate on Sunday. 

The dress is a custom-made figure-hugging halter mini dress with a bamboo and floral print on silk. The singer had worn it at the 2011 Summer Festival tour in Belgrade, a month before her death. It was designed by Winehouse’s designer and stylist, Naomi Parry. The original estimate of the dress is $15,000. And it was sold for 16 times the original estimated price.

Asides the dress, more than 800 of Amy Winehouse’s dresses, shoes, jewellery and accessories were auctioned off over the weekend. The auction made over $4million.

Among the items was a Moschino custom-made red leather heart-shaped purse Winehouse had used at the 2007 Brit Awards. It sold for $204,800, 13 times its original estimate of $15,000.

Other items sold at the auction included a black jumpsuit worn at a Sunday Times 2008 portrait shoot,a floral gold lamé D&G stage-worn dress that was sold for $150,000, a Temperly London tan.

The auction also sold the star’s  Christian Louboutin tan peep-toe heels worn at the same performance and to her father’s 60th birthday party at Trent Park Golf Course in November 2009 and to London’s The Horse and Hound Pub in August 2010. It was sold for $38,400.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Amy Winehouse Foundation set up by the singer’s parents to help young people with addiction issues.

The English songwriter died in July 2021 from alcohol poisoning at her home in Camden, north London. She was 27 years old at the time of her death.
