Amitabh Bachchan, Bollywood star, and his son, Abhishek Bachchan, have tested positive for COVID-19.
The 77-year-old movie star and his son broke the news via their individual social media page pages on Saturday.
According to reports, Bachchan had interacted with production staff when he shot a promotional video for a show in his house.
“I have tested COVID-19 positive .. shifted to the hospital .. hospital informing authorities .. family and staff have undergone tests, results awaited .. All that have been in close proximity to me in the last 10 days are requested to please get themselves tested!” Bachchan wrote on Twitter.
Minutes after the post, his 44-year-old son also announced his test result, noting relevant authorities have been contacted.
“Earlier today both my father and I tested positive for COVID-19. Both of us having mild symptoms have been admitted to hospital,” the actor’s son wrote.
“We have informed all the required authorities and our family and staff are all being tested. I request all to stay calm and not panic. Thank you.”
According to Rajesh Tope, Maharashtra Health Minister, Amitabh Bachchan is stable with mild symptoms and is currently admitted in the isolation unit at Nanavati Super Speciality Hospital, Mumbai.
Despite a stringent lockdown, the new coronavirus has infected over 820,000 people and killed over 22,000 in India.
In the previous 24 hours, India recorded 27,114 cases, making it the nation with the third-biggest outbreak behind the United States and Brazil in confirmed infections.
The country has 850, 358 confirmed cases of the novel disease while 22,687 deaths have been recorded as of Saturday, according to Worldometer.
