American TV host, Oprah Winfrey, has announced the demise of her father, Vernon Winfrey.
Taking to her Instagram page on Saturday, the media personality announced that her father died on Friday at the age of 89.
She wrote “Less than a week ago we honored my father in his own backyard. My friend and gospel singer Wintley Phipps saluted him with a song. He felt the love and reveled in it until he could no longer speak.
“Yesterday with family surrounding his bedside, I had the sacred honor of witnessing the man responsible for my life, take his last breath. We could feel peace enter the room at his passing.
“That Peace still abides. All is well. Thank you for your prayers and good thoughts.”
Oprah Winfrey best known for her talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, broadcast from Chicago, which was the highest-rated television program of its kind in history and ran in national syndication for 25 years, from 1986 to 2011.
