American movie star, Alec Baldwin, has accidentally discharged a prop gun on the set of his movie, Rust, on Thursday, leading to the death of the film’s director of photography, Halyna Hutchins and injury of its director, Joel Souza.
The movie set is located in Santa Fe County, New Mexico.
A spokesman for the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, Juan Rios, revealed the accident killed Hutchins. It injured Souza around 1.50pm. Rios further stated that the shooting happened in the middle of the scene. And the circumstances of the occurrence are under investigation.
The spokesperson has revealed that the Sheriff’s Office is conducting interviews with the people present on the set. This is to determine how the incident occured. Rios said,
“We’re trying to determine right now how and what type of projectile was used in the firearm. Charges are yet to be filed against anyone as regards the shooting.”
According to him, after the shooting, Ms. Htchins was flown to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, where she later died. While the injured director was taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe. However, he stated that he did not have more information regarding his condition.
Rios further revealed that Baldwin’s representative and the film producers did not immediately respond to emails or phone calls on Thursday night. However, the star voluntarily went in for questioning.
In 2019, American Cinematographer named the 42 year old director of photography a “rising star”.
