The Ake Arts and Book Festival calls for entry for the 2019 edition of its annual journal, Ake Review. The theme of this year’s festival is: “Black Bodies, Grey Matter”.
In your stories for this review, explore the the link between the mental and the physical, and explore specific phenomena such as scarification, stereotyping, gender nonconformity, colourism, and issues concerning mental health in an African context.
Submit a maximum of three poems, 1,600 words for prose, and two works in high-res jpeg and a bio not longer than 70 words, for artworks. Successful entrants will get two copies of Ake Review and a token that will be communicated directly.
Entries must be original and unpublished, with AR Submissions as the subject. Deadline for submission is Monday, 8th July, 2019. Send your works as an attachment to editor@akefestival.org. Only one submission per person.
Ake Festival is an annual literary, cultural and arts event, founded in 2013 by Nigerian writer Lola Shoneyin. The Ake Arts and Book Festival has been described as the African continents biggest annual gathering of literary writers, editor, critics and readers. This is the 7th edition of the festival.
