Nigerian ex-beauty queen, Agbani Darego, marked the 20th anniversary of winning the Miss World back in 2001.
She did this sharing a video on her verified Instagram page on Tuesday. The video showed her getting crowned 20 years ago. Darego captioned it
“20 years today! Forever thankful for the experience @missworld.”
The 38 year old was the first native African to win the Miss World beauty pageant in 2001. Before then, she had won national beauty pageants such as Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria. At the Miss Universe competition, she became the first Nigerian to place among the top 10 semi-finalists, finishing seventh overall. She was also the only contestant to wear a one-piece bathing suit rather than a bikini during the swimsuit competition.
The model also negotiated a modelling deal with Donald Trump’s management to establish links with modelling agencies in America.
Darego married billionaire Theophilus Danjuma’s first son, Ishaya. They tied the knot in a private ceremony, held at the Amanjena Luxury Resort in Marrakech, Morocco, in 2017.
