Actor Etim Effiong Celebrates Father’s Presidential Pardon

Etim Effiong, Nigerian actor is celebrating the presidential pardon his father, Moses Effiong, a retired colonel just got from President Muhammadu Buhari.

Lt. Col. Moses Effiong was among the five Nigerians that President Muhammadu Buhari granted presidential pardon on Thursday.

Buhari also approved an amnesty for 2,600 inmates nationwide, with 70 inmates from Kuje Correctional Centre as beneficiaries.

Expressing his excitement over the news, Etim Effiong described his father’s presidential pardon as a divine arrangement considering it is coming 34 years after his conviction.

The actor recounted how his father went to prison over a coup he attempted against the Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) government in 1986. He got out in 1993; but he lost his rank and its benefits.

“The colonel is back! In 1986 my father was convicted and sentenced to life in prison; for concealment of treason in the Vatsa Coup against the IBB government,” he wrote on Instagram.

“Although he was released in 1993, it wasn’t official and his rank and entitlements were not restored. Today 34 years later, he has officially received his presidential pardon. #FaithfulGod #Nevergiveup #Jesusisalive.”

Born in Jaji, Kaduna State, Etim Effiong studied Chemical Engineering as his first degree; at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State. He worked as an engineer in the oil and gas industry before changing careers. He went ahead to South Africa to study Film Making, Writing and Directing at the AFDA Film School.

Afterward, he went to study Film Making as a course at the University of Johannesburg.

In addition, he is popular for movies like KofaDown and Out (2012) and From Lagos with Love (2018).
