Activewear Trends Set to Dominate the Fitness World in 2020

All-in-one bodysuits, metallic leggings and sportswear with zips are all set to dominate athletic fashion in the new year.     

Global fashion search platform Lyst released its trend report for active wear in 2020, comparing more than 104 million shoppers across 12,000 fashion brands.

In general it found that searches for activewear items have seen a significant increase since the beginning of the new year and are up 59 percent.

Leggings that sculpt the body are the most wanted workout bottoms right now with data indicating a continued growth in popularity.

Customers are using key terms like ‘shaping’, ‘lift’ and ‘sculpting’ to find the perfect pair, increasing collectively by 392 per cent over the last three months.

Activewear has evolved into balancing functionality and fashion with a 180 per cent increase on searches for pockets, and a 76 per cent rise in searches for ‘zip leggings’.

High shine and coated leggings are having a big fashion moment globally with requests for ‘black coated leggings’ up 250 per cent since mid-November.

Eco-conscious activewear is one of the biggest trends we can expect to see more of in 2020, particularly since Australia was plunged into the climate debate when the bushfire crisis began.

Searches for ‘sustainable active wear are at an all time high, up to 151 percent compared to the previous year.
