Thirty-one years after the original, a new Home Alone reboot is coming on Disney Plus.
On November 12, 2021, the new adventure comedy titled, Home Sweet Home Alone, will debut on the streaming platform. Disney Plus made the announcement on Thursday morning.

The movie will star Jojo Rabbit breakout star, Archie Yates in the lead role. The cast also includes Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney, Aisling Bea, Kenan Thompson, Tim Simons and Pete Holmes.
In the original film, Macaulay Culkin’s Kevin McAllister was accidentally left alone at home on Christmas by his family. Here, Yates will play Max Mercer, a young boy who’s also accidentally left behind while his family travels to Japan for the holidays. Now, he has to protect his family home from a trespassing married couple.
Directed by Dan Mazer, the film boasts screenplay from Saturday Night Live duo, Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell. They created the story with John Hughes, who wrote the original “Home Alone” and two of its sequels. Hutch Parker and Dan Wilson serve as producers, with Jeremiah Samuels as executive producer.

The original Home Alone movie came out in 1990. Home Sweet Home Alone will be the sixth movie in the franchise.

Max Mercer is a mischievous and resourceful young boy who has been left behind while his family is in Japan for the holidays. So when a married couple attempting to retrieve a priceless heirloom set their sights on the Mercer family’s home, it is up to Max to protect it from the trespassers…and he will do whatever it takes to keep them out. Hilarious hijinks of epic proportions ensue, but despite the absolute chaos, Max comes to realize that there really is no place like home sweet home.”
