Popular Yoruba musician Abolore Adegbola Akande, popularly known as 9ice, is getting married for the third time. This year, the singer is marrying his baby mama, Sunkami Ajala.
9ice and Sunkanmi already have a daughter named Mitchelle, who was born in 2014. The couple will wed at an already fixed date in December 2019. This will be 9ice’s third marriage.
9ice’s relationship history
9ice’s first marriage was to poet Toni Payne In 2008. Together, they have a son. When the marriage collapsed, he got into a relationship with Vicki Godis who bore him a set of twins. However, the twins no longer bear his surname due to his absence from their lives.
Years later, in August 2018, the “Gongo Aso” singer tied the knot with a US-based engineer, Adetola Anifalaje, and the couple had a girl together named Milani-Francoise Imisioluwa Akande.
Sunkanmi and 9ice have been dating on and off for years. The two welcomed their first daughter, Michelle Abolanle Akande, five years ago. Sunkanmi Ajala is an event planner based in Lagos.
9ice’s parents are, however, distancing themselves from this marriage because of their active involvement in the first two marriages which later crashed.
The double standard
One surprising thing about the news 9ice getting married is that he is getting no backlash or slander whatsoever. Whereas, when a female counterpart, case in point Tiwa Savage, moves on after a bad marriage, the internet becomes vile and disrespectful.
You find that in this country, society allows and even encourages men to pursue happiness, no matter who or what they damage along the way. They can easily step out when a situation becomes inconvenient, knowing society will support and applaud them.
Women, on the other hand, are to endure all sorts of hurt and humiliation. When rumors surfaced of a relationship between Tiwa Savage and Wizkid about a year ago, fans severely slutshamed her.
This was a woman whose ex-husband serially exploited and cheated on her. Fans and male celebrities even called for her to date in secret because flaunting it could hurt her cheating ex-husband and cause him to commit suicide.
Whereas, 9ice’s public proclamation of love by marrying his baby mama can do no harm to his exes and other baby mamas. Women are impermeable forces to be misunderstood and easily replaced when it suits men.
