American rapper, 50 Cent and the Emmy awards are yet again entangled in a fresh rift. The rapper slammed the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for refusing to nominate his crime drama series, Power in this year’s award.
On July 29, the long awaited list of the 2020 Emmy awards was released. Ozark, Better Call Saul, Killing Eve, The Mandalorian, and Stranger Things; were nominated for the category of Outstanding Drama Series award but Power was allegedly snubbed.
Reacting to the nominee list, the rapper took to Instagram to share a close-up picture of a statue’s naked bum alongside the caption; “ok here it is Emmy’s, My Black ass for your consideration to kiss. F*ck your organization I only care about NAACP awards.“
Since its first season in 2014, Power which airs on Starz has enjoyed critical and commercial success.
The series, which stars Omari Hardwick, Joseph Sikora, Rotimi Akinosho, Lela Loren and 50 Cent; was crated by Courtney Kemp and ended in February 2020.
Power is the most-watched show for Starz and is also the third most-watched scripted series on premium cable. It won Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Naturi Naughton); and Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series (Omari Hardwick) at the NAACP Awards.
Around this time last year, 50 Cent who also serves as Executive producer on Power went hard on Emmys for snubbing the drama series.
“The EMMY’s can kiss my black ass in slow motion. Fuck em I’m #1 They a bunch of Bengay my back hurt smelling ass old people anyway.
“I’d like to say it’s racial. That’s the easy way to get out of things. I just think [the voters] overlook it.”
