Christmas is coming. The year is almost over and the era of “new year new me”, is upon us. Many of us swore we’d read a couple books as our new year’s resolution earlier this year. However, not many of us actually read many books this year…or did you? Nevertheless, i put together a list of some of my favourite Nigerian novels I read this year for those who’d like to read something before the year comes to an end.

Here are ten Nigerian Novels you should read before the year runs out;

Nearly All The Men In Lagos Are Mad by Damilare Kuku

In this collection of twelve captivating stories, Damilare Kuku carefully structures different scenarios highlighting the struggles women face in their romantic lives. The novel underscores humor, wit, drama and many more.

Stay With Me by Ayobami Adebayo

This novel follows the love story of Yejinde and Akin who met and fell in love in university. Their relationship grows and they end up getting married. Years pass and Yejinde, however, could not have a child of her own. This led to intervention from Akin’s family members, pushing Yejinde to get a child by all means possible.

Fine Boys by Eghosa Imasuen

This story exposes the level of cultism and gang violence in higher institutions in Nigeria. It shows the dangers of cultism and moral decadence in Universities. It’s a must-read for Nigerian students.

Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi

Ada is an unusual child, a source of deep concern to her southern Nigerian family. She is troubled, prone to violent fits. Born “with one foot on the other side,” she begins to develop separate selves within her as she grows into adulthood. Honestly, this book is a personal favourite. You should read.

I Do Not Come to You by Chance by Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani

It’s a story of a first born and his responsibilities. Kingsley Ibe doesn’t have a job, but must find a way to take care of his younger ones. If you’re the first born child, this book is for you.
