The 2022 Grammy awards scheduled for January 31 was postponed on Wednesday due to “uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant” of Covid-19 that has ripped through the United States in recent weeks.
According to a statement from the Recording Academy, “holding the show on January 31 simply contains too many risks”. They further informed that a rescheduled date will be announced soon.
That continued,
“The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority.”
The top nominees for the annual show includes stars like Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo and Jon Batiste.
The last awards show was the first Grammys of the pandemic era. Although , it also suffered the same fate of postponement. It was postponed to March 14 after the original date was postponed during last winter’s surge in coronavirus cases.
